How to Avoid Decision Stress

It happens to the best of us… “Decision Stress”.

Should I eat this? Should I drink that? Can I “squeeze” in some exercise today?

Getting healthier shouldn’t be stressful. It’s supposed to do the opposite.

Here’s how to avoid decision stress…

Create some simple rules that you will follow – NO exceptions.

For example, here are a few rules of my own:

#1 – I will use resistance exercise two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Any other sessions will be considered “extra credit”.

#2 – I will stay active by playing basketball 3 days a week in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

#3 – I won’t have my first “cheat” meal until Friday night each week.

See how this works? It sets me up for success. When my wife asks if we should go out for ice cream on a Tuesday night, I don’t stress about how it will affect my diet and scramble to figure out how it can fit into my weekly menu. I simply reply with “We’ll go Friday night” because of rule #3.

And if someone invites me to breakfast on a Wednesday morning, I just say “I can’t make it, but I can do Thursday” because I’ve committed Wednesday to basketball.

This eliminates decision stress from my life.

So, here’s my challenge to you…

Take 15 – 30 minutes sometime today and create your own “Health Rules”. It can be just 3 or even as many as 10 (but any more than that and it’s overkill).

You’ll soon discover it’s so much easier to  make decisions because you have your own rules in place to guide you.

One more example…

Let’s say you eat late at night not because you’re hungry, but because you’re bored. You would then set up a rule like “I will not eat after 8pm”.

Now to make this really “REAL”, share your rules with your friends and family. Ask them to hold you accountable.

I guarantee two things:

1) You’ll remove a lot of stress from your life and …
2) You’ll make some huge progress over the next few weeks.

Hope you found this helpful. Go kick butt this week!,
